The easiest refutation of Witness Chronology
by CunningMan inwhenever the prophetic chronology of jehovah's witnesses is criticized, it begins with their commitment to 607 b.c.e as beginning of the seventy weeks and the relevant archaeological evidence.
however, it seems to me that there is an easier way to debate the issue.
why not show them that the so-called day-for-a-year-rule is unwarranted.

New light for you
SO i read those scriptures, and it sounded to me like me when i want to punish my children....
" hum... how long did you do that thing?? 40days, let me think, let me think, hum, well , how bout i punish you a day for a year, a day for a year, ya, that sounds good... ok, i punish you 40years. that sounds good! awe! dont cry little brats!!!"
Man. that's a good deal. next time my daughter is bad for a day, i'm gonna punish her a year. Maybe the scripture is just helpful parenting advise??
ITS POSSIBLE!!

Looking Back, Was Being A Witness A Worthless Experience To You?
by minimus inwas there anything positive about being a jehovah's witness?

New light for you
I appreciate this thread as a friendly change of pace, so i'll play....
It kept me away from smoking, drugs etc. Gave me a wonderful world of friends, all the frontline people i love dearly and have no problems with. Made me familiar with every single aspect of multi-level marketing so that i excelled at that (all your "at home parties") (does anyone realize our religion is set up exactly , and i mean EXACTLY as these companies???!!!??) Gave me free help when moving, self-confidence in speaking. It honestly gave me everything, which is what someone else said, makes it harder to leave.
If it only WAS the truth.... it would be paradise.

Dona,
So glad you're here. You found a great place where people understand. It's also a great place to get answers to any witness questions you still might have, and comisserate feelings.
I'm probably going to have to DA next month after I throw my daughters birthday party... i think then the "fade" wont work... at least i have a month to adjust, I was almost forced into it as it sounds like you were , and it was making me sick-literally and emotionally.
Take care of yourself. Now is a time to be comfortable and sure with your decision- that honestly makes you feel better.
I also felt a little better when i sat down and tried to make a list of people that NOW i would be able to contact- old school-mates, friends from jobs that you wern't able to be "friends" with, family that wasn't in the truth, neighbors- and all the people in the future! There's a whole big world out there!
Welcome!

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

song.... nice to meet you.
And its funny, i was JUST thinking of that last night... so i'll be curious what posts you recieve. It's an "afterthought" once you've been thourghally convinced and fully "done".... oh no.. now what happens???
I just got to that point, and it's scarey now. I felt like i would die, but then wake in the "new system(tm)". Now it's just a big ????????????
frightening.....

OK, let me explain....
by dawg inso, the last few threads i've written have been about telling your families and friends how you feel; many of you have given me the reasons you don't speak out to your families, but i want to tell you the main reason you should.
please let me explain.... .
i keep on stressing this point because how it makes you feel, i'm telling you all, that for over 19 years, i let information about my thoughts out slowly, then the tipping point... at my uncle's funeral 2 february's ago, while listening to my family pontificate at dinner about who so and so is pioneering and the like, it hit me that i was sick to the core of them throwing their bullisi*t beliefs at me like i was inferior or something.

Junction guy- i have a great idea for you...
I just read this in the Steve Hassans "combatting cult mind control"... these are the questions you are supposed to ask someone if they're trying to "get you"... I read this, i would LOVE to see what the witnesses would do with even just this ONE question.....
(Word for word)
What are the three things you like the LEAST about the group and the group leaders?
HHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!! can you all picture that???!?!?! I know, 6 months ago, i would have been completely dumbfounded (because i was dumb).
If your curious, some of the other questions he had listed were:
Is your group considered to be controversial by anyone? If peole are critical of your group, what are their main objections?
(THIS IS A GOOD ONE TOO)
How do you feel about former members of your group? have you ever sat down to speak with a former member to find out why he left the group? If not, why? Does your group impose restrictions on communicating with former members?
anyway... i think that would be fun. but honestly otherwise... why are you wasting your time like that? go ! have fun! buy a xmas tree or something!!!
